World Cancer Day
Together we challenge those in power to close the cancer care gap.
About
World Cancer Day is observed on February 4 each year with the goal of saving millions of preventable deaths by raising awareness, improving education, and pressing governments and individuals to take action against cancer. Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, responsible for nearly 10 million deaths per year. Early detection and equitable access to treatment remain critical challenges.
History
World Cancer Day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), with the first observance on February 4, 2000, through the signing of the Charter of Paris Against Cancer. Since 2016, each campaign has run on a three-year cycle — most recently 'Close the Care Gap,' addressing inequalities in cancer treatment worldwide.
