About Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and the holiest period in Islam. During Ramadan, Muslims around the world observe a fast from before sunrise (Fajr) to sunset (Maghrib), abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs. The month is also marked by increased prayer, Quran recitation, charitable giving (Zakat), and community gatherings for the pre-dawn meal (Suhoor) and the breaking of the fast (Iftar).
Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr — the "Festival of Breaking the Fast" — a joyful celebration marked by communal prayers, feasting, gift-giving, and charity. Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, Ramadan shifts approximately 10–11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar.
