World Food Day
Zero hunger is possible. Together we can make it happen.
About
World Food Day is observed annually on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1945. The day promotes worldwide awareness and action in the fight against hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. Over 150 countries participate in events ranging from food fairs to school campaigns.
History
World Food Day was established at the 20th General Conference of the FAO in November 1979. The first World Food Day was observed on October 16, 1981. Since then the FAO assigns a new theme each year tied to its mission: food security, sustainable agriculture, and ending hunger.
