World Alzheimer's Day
Raising awareness and ending the stigma of dementia worldwide.
About
World Alzheimer's Day is observed on September 21 each year as part of World Alzheimer's Month. Over 55 million people worldwide live with dementia — a number projected to nearly triple by 2050. The day raises awareness, challenges stigma, and advocates for better diagnosis, support, and research.
History
World Alzheimer's Day was launched in 1994 by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI). The entire month of September was designated World Alzheimer's Month in 2012. Alzheimer's disease was first described by German psychiatrist Alois Alzheimer in 1906 and remains without a cure, making advocacy and research funding critically important.
